My Picks for Spring 2011 Anime

Every season I go to my favorite site that lists out what everyone this season is subbing along with the TV Guide for Japan. This site is the Fansub Wiki, I used to use it very heavily back in the days when Sul and I were subbing anime under Nihonhut Fansubs. I usually get a pretty good feel about a show when I look at the offical website.

The things I look at are :
  • Art Style
  • Main Characters
  • Setting
  • Any Videos on the Site

After I’ve gone through the site for a little while I decide whether or not I would watch it. Ok, on to the anime I picked for this season.

Moshidora

I have little information to go off of on this one other than a high school girl leads a baseball team by reading a manual about leading. Now when it talks about High School girls leading baseball teams it makes me think that this time the team is finally going to win Koshien and be High School Champs for the nation. This would make the anime more dramatic and be one to watch if you enjoy live action dramas. Which I do, so this anime will probably be on my top list this season. However, I feel it may take off slow.

Aria The Scarlet Ammo

The story takes place in a high school for kids who will become armed detectives this school is called “Tokyo Butei High School”. Our main male protagonist is named Kinji Tooyama and is a second year student who seems to have this special ability that he doesn’t want anyone to know about. Unfortunately on his way to school one more he is inadvertently caught in a bombing. In this bombing he encounters Aria Kanzaki, the schools most powerful student. Then the anime ensues! A school that teaches kids to use guns, this one will be a good watch thats for sure.

Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko

This anime focuses around a teenage boy named Niwa Makoto. He stays with his aunt’s family since his parents are always away on business. While he is living there he meets his intriguing cousin, who happens to be the same age as him, Touwa Erio. She enjoys tying a futon mattress around her midsection and proclaims she is an alien. She eats nothing but pizza and had been missing for half a year before being found out at sea. Erio doesn’t remember her time that she was away. However, she believes it was the work of an alien and takes to the streets of the area wrapped in a mattress. This one seems pretty far out like the anime I’m currently watching called Level-E. I’ve always liked aliens quite a bit so this one should be quite a treat.

C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control

Synopsis from Anime News Network :

The Japanese government was rescued from the brink of financial collapse by the Sovereign Wealth Fund. For its citizens, however, life has not improved, and unemployment, crime, suicide, and despair are rampant. Kimimaro, raised by his maternal grandmother after the disappearance of his father and the death of his mother, is a scholarship student whose only dream is to avoid all this and live a stable life. One day, however, he meets a man who offers him a large sum of money if he’ll agree to pay it back. From then on his fate is radically altered as he’s drawn into a mysterious area known as “The Financial District.”

This anime seems to have the same art style as Index and looks to prove as intriguing. The synopsis doesn’t really give us much information to go off of but as usual I’ll watch it to see how it ends up.

Deadman Wonderland

Synopsis from Anime News Network :

Ganta Igarashi has been convicted of a crime that he hasn’t committed, and sent to a new, privately owned and operated prison, where the inmates are the main attraction in a modern day twist to the gladiatorial coliseums of ancient times. Throw in a healthy dose of weird little girl, some new-found super powers, and a little conspiracy theory, and you have Deadman Wonderland.

Despite what the synopsis says the website for this one looked the most interesting. Its like the setting of deathrace if the races were gladiator pit fights with an alien looking girl like from Eureka 7. It looks dark and gritty and overall a good entertaining watch.

There are a couple that I haven’t mentioned that I probably will watch. They are AnoHana, Kampfer2 and Nichijou. Nichijou I talked about in my previous recommendation and its air date got moved to spring instead. Kampfer2 I only recommend that you watch if you watched the first season and didn’t utterly hate it. I felt robbed at the end of the first season ,but I’m going to see this one through. AnoHana had a really “slice of life” looking Web site and I’m really attracted to that style ,but there wasn’t much on it around the net so I didn’t have much to write about. Well, I hope this helped you all decide which anime to watch this season. I know my research helped me decide…lol.

Till the next time, Kabi out.
